‘The Tap’

My earlier works focus on the female body or more crudely the ‘flesh’ and what we are taught to perceive as ‘beauty’. How it is represented culturally throughout society and in painting. My earlier works illustrated the impact the media and society has on young females, in which I exploited through many different forms eg. a self portrait of myself bathing, an intimate, fleshy painting of my thigh tied in pearls as if a piece of meat, a lump of meat strung in pearls in the same way and violently painted ballerinas. These metaphorical pieces intended to narrate the pain and torment females have to endure in order to depict such ‘perfect’ forms of manufactured ‘beauty’.
