Water Paintings

I wished to continue the concept of using water to distort or confuse the viewer’s initial understanding of the dynamics of the piece. I studied this further through simply photographing details of water surges and splashes in a weir, which I initially wanted to use as ‘water paintings’ as I felt the water created such beautiful organic forms on their own, they should be defined as a painting in themselves. After reviewing the images I felt it would also be interesting to manipulate the dynamics of the photographs, to confuse the reality of them for the viewer by inverting them, implying the water is defying gravity. The end result proved much more subtle than i imagined, as in nature, there are instances where water momentarily seems to defy gravity.
